Analysis of the match between Lecce and Inter
It remains uncertain whether Inter Milan can overturn the deficit against Bodø/Glimt after a 1-3 loss in the first leg of the play-off, but given the current situation, the chances for Cristian Chivu’s squad to progress deep into the UEFA Champions League this season are very limited. Therefore, the most realistic goal for Inter now is to focus on winning the Serie A title. In fact, the team has already exhausted both energy and ideas after a campaign that reached the Champions League final but ended empty-handed.
After AC Milan were held to a draw by Como 1907 midweek, the gap between the two city rivals remains at 7 points ahead of round 26. This margin is not huge but is not easy for Milan to close. Chivu’s Inter currently excels at dominating weaker opponents, and in reality, there are far too many mid-to-low level teams in Serie A now.
Lecce is naturally considered a lower-mid table team. With 24 points from 25 rounds, the Puglia side sits just above the relegation zone. Lecce recently achieved back-to-back wins for the first time this season, but the victims were only Udinese and Cagliari. Inter clearly presents a completely different challenge for Eusebio Di Francesco’s squad.
Another victory at Stadio Via del Mare would allow Inter to consolidate first place and move closer to the Scudetto.
