Analysis of the match between Liverpool and Newcastle United
Liverpool hold multiple advantages ahead of their clash with Newcastle. Firstly, The Kop remain unbeaten in their last 18 Premier League meetings with the Magpies (13 wins, 5 draws) since a 2-0 away loss in December 2015. In addition, Arne Slot’s side are aiming to win both league fixtures against Newcastle for the 12th time – if successful, it would be the most victories Liverpool have ever achieved against a single opponent in the Premier League (currently tied with West Ham at 11).
Liverpool also have another key weapon: Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward has never been involved in more Premier League goals than in matches against Newcastle, with 19 goal contributions (10 goals, 9 assists). Another assist in this game would make him the first player in Premier League history to reach double digits in both goals and assists against a single opponent.
Moreover, Dominik Szoboszlai poses a serious threat, having attempted 33 shots from outside the box – the most in the Premier League this season – and boasting the highest conversion rate among players with at least 25 attempts. This is another weapon helping The Kop get closer to victory.
Additionally, Newcastle’s struggles on the road work in Liverpool’s favor. Only Nottingham and Wolves (7 games each) have failed to score more away matches than Newcastle (6) this season. Furthermore, 70% of Newcastle’s away goals (7/10) came from just two wins on the road (4-1 vs Everton, 3-1 vs Burnley).
With so many advantages, Liverpool are clearly well-positioned to overcome Newcastle once again at Anfield.
