Analysis of the match between Auxerre and Paris Saint-Germain
Auxerre’s season has been far from smooth, as the team have clearly shown a lack of consistency along with numerous problems in both attack and defense. After the first 18 rounds of Ligue 1, coach Pelissier’s side have managed just three wins, a figure that reflects their significant drop in form. More concerning is their recent record: only one win, three draws and ten defeats in the last 14 matches across all competitions, a run that has left them in a constant struggle in the relegation battle.
The ability to convert chances into goals is currently Auxerre’s biggest weakness. With only 14 goals scored after 18 rounds, they own the least effective attacking line in Ligue 1 this season. Defensively, the situation is no more reassuring, having conceded 28 goals, highlighting systemic issues and a lack of cohesion at both ends of the pitch.
Meanwhile, PSG have also failed to deliver convincing performances. The capital club remain inconsistent, lacking sharpness in attack and showing vulnerability in defense. In their last four matches (within 90 minutes), PSG have recorded just one win, one draw and two defeats, increasing the pressure on head coach Luis Enrique. Ahead of the decisive final-round clash with Newcastle in the 2025/26 Champions League, PSG are in need of a victory over Auxerre to build momentum and confidence.
Overall, considering factors such as head-to-head record, squad depth and overall form, PSG are clearly rated higher and have plenty of reasons to aim for all three points, even though Auxerre appear to be the more attractive option on the Asian handicap. A win would help PSG ease the pressure and approach the upcoming showdown with Newcastle at Parc des Princes in a more proactive mindset.
