Analysis of the match between VfB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg
VfB Stuttgart were the DFB-Pokal champions last season and now stand before another strong opportunity to reach the final once again. Under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, the team is not only competing in the Bundesliga top-four race but also pushing for a UEFA Champions League spot, playing an energetic and highly entertaining attacking style.
Their next challenge is SC Freiburg, who recently made headlines by reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals after an impressive 6–1 aggregate win over Celta Vigo. Managed by Julian Schuster, Freiburg seem to be prioritising cup competitions over the Bundesliga, although they still managed to beat Heidenheim last weekend, moving up to 7th place in the 2025/26 Bundesliga table.
Freiburg have shown clear improvement in the spring period and are expected to make this a competitive and entertaining match for neutral fans. However, Stuttgart are still slightly favoured to advance.
In fact, Stuttgart have dominated recent meetings, winning 4 and losing 2 of their last 6 encounters with Freiburg. At home, they have won all of their last 3 meetings without conceding a single goal.
With their current advantages, Stuttgart are expected to show their resilience once again and book a place in the final, keeping alive hopes of defending their DFB-Pokal title.
